Event 04 – Marathon Hike from Eastbourne to Brighton

Starting with a 4:30 wake up, we got the essentials (coffee/snacks) together and made our way down to the station for our early train to Eastbourne. Just after 7am, 12 of us arrived in Eastbourne ready to take on the last big Performance Project challenge of the year – a 26.2 mile (42km) hike across the south coast, finishing at a pub with food and beer (coke zero for me) in mind.

After completing the Seven Sisters (beautiful) and passing through some industrial estates (not the best), we make it to Rottingdean approximately 7kms away from the finish. At this stage, everyone is just about hanging on mentally, we’ve all fought cold temperatures, sideways rain and blistering headwind all day, we all knew this last push was going to be tough. What I loved though was that everyone just smiled and got on with it.

Reaching the 42km mark, we had reached our goal… challenge completed. Won’t be doing that again in a hurry.
